Oakmont Country Club

A Henry C. Fownes course.

The course

Designed by amateur architect Henry Fownes and opened in 1904 just outside Pittsburgh, Oakmont has hosted more U.S. Opens than any other course, ten through 2025. It is known for some of the fastest greens in championship golf, deep furrowed bunkers, and a layout built to punish anything less than precise. A Gil Hanse restoration ahead of the 2025 U.S. Open returned the course to founder Fownes's demanding original intent.

Signature hole: The Church Pews bunker, a single sprawling sand hazard ribbed with rows of grassy mounds, runs between the third and fourth fairways and swallows tee shots pulled to the left.
