Mullen, NE

Sand Hills Golf Club

Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

The course

Set deep in the Nebraska Sandhills near Mullen, this remote private club was routed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who found their holes in the existing terrain and moved almost no earth. Opened in 1995, it is celebrated for its minimalist approach and consistently sits at the top of rankings of courses built in the modern era. Membership is small and the prairie setting is treeless and exposed to the wind.

Signature hole: The 17th, a short uphill par 3 of roughly 150 yards, plays to a small green guarded by a deep front bunker and is widely regarded as one of the finest short par 3s in the game.
